Cavani doubtful for France match

It would be a huge blow for the South Americans, whose deadly duo of Cavani and Luis Suarez has seen them win every game this tournament.

Cavani has a painful swelling but not a tear, the country's football federation said on Monday, increasing his chances of being fit to face France.

Following Portugal's defeat at the hands of Uruguay in the 2018 FIFA World Cup on June 30, the team's striker Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend was trolled by angry fans.

After the match, Portugal coach Fernando Santos couldn't come to terms with the result.

Suarez was less convinced by recent claims that Griezmann was half-Uruguayan because he plays with Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez at Atletico Madrid, drinks mate tea and even turned up at the airport wearing a Uruguay shirt to greet his teammates when they qualified for Russian Federation.

"The player remains in pain".

Rumours had it that Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portugal national will be retiring from worldwide football after a shocking exit from the World Cup 2018 in Russian Federation following their 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

The Suarez-Cavani duo synchronised for two magical goals against Portugal on Saturday to advance to the quarter-finals.

It has not been any different at his club PSG either. Following a corner, Ronaldo rose up, but it was the unmarked Pepe, 35, who sent home the header from behind, as the oldest Portugal player to score at a World Cup and for the first time here in Russian Federation to strike a ball into the net of Uruguay.

Cavani's second goal was another magnificent effort as he met Bentancur's pass first-time and curled the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

With his strikes against Portugal, his tally in Russian Federation reached three. The Manchester City star and Juventus duo Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain started on the bench and could well have had a result-changing impact had they featured more prominently.
