LeBron James banner comes down in Cleveland

With LeBron James finally confirmed to join the Los Angeles Lakers, it would be easy to accuse him of having "gone Hollywood".

James isn't planning any more comments and there won't be a welcoming press conference or celebration in Los Angeles, a person familiar with his plans said Sunday night on the condition of anonymity. After being in the National Basketball Association for 15 years, this will be the first time James will play for a Western Conference team.

Unless he is traded, Lonzo Ball will be teammates with LeBron James next season.

Of course, Ball couldn't make his argument without at least some trash talk, so he took a few jabs at Irving while attempting to favorably contrast his son with the five-time All-Star, now with the Celtics. If you've been watching the National Basketball Association for the last 10 years or so, you know you can not bet against LeBron James' team under any circumstances. The Lakers may not win the championship this year but they will be challenging the (overpowered) Warriors who now have 5 All-Stars in their team after signing DeMarcus Cousins from the Pelicans.

James also acts as executive producer on the NBC game show "The Wall", a series that was renewed for a third season despite allegations of misconduct by its host, Chris Hardwick, who also executive produces. "We're going to play so fast, he'll throw (James) touchdown passes and he'll be scoring all day". It was a stark contrast from eight years ago, when a poorly-conceived TV special to announce his departure from Cleveland backfired and damaged James' image.

Last week, Magic Johnson suggested the Lakers were operating on a two-year plan and would not be rushed into decision this summer, particularly given Leonard, Irving, Klay Thompson and DeAndre Jordan will be unrestricted free agents in 12 months. It was possible for the Lakers to retain Randle on a one-year deal with an inflated salary, exceeding the $9 million he will be making annually on his two year agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Regardless of what happens during the season, the new look Lakers will surely be full of unique characters.

The best player of his generation might no longer be the best recruiter in the league.
