Lucas Torreira confirms Arsenal transfer as he flies in for medical

That claim is supported by Uruguayan outlet Referi who confirm the 22-year-old will not travel with the rest of his global team-mates back to Uruguay and is instead travelling to London, via Moscow, today to complete his move to Arsenal.

Sportsmail reported last week that the fee with Sampdoria was close to being agreed and would be announced once Uruguay's campaign in Russian Federation was over.

He was pleased with his displays in Russian Federation, and told Telenoche: "It's true that in the end I got into this squad, although I was not part of the qualifiers but happy with the performance I had personally".

Now that his World Cup is over, negotiations are picking up their pace.

The Uruguay worldwide midfielder has been linked with the Gunners for some time and a deal appears close.

Arsenal hope to complete Lucas Torreira deal next week.

Football London claim Torreira is now due to fly to London from Russian Federation to undergo his medical with Arsenal as Emery wants the transfer wrapped-up as quickly as possible with pre-season preparations already well underway.

"I've met some great people here and I'm really excited about the future and I want to kick on and prove to everyone the player I can be".

"The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me".

Torreira will become Unai Emery's fourth signing since taking over at the Emirates.

The Gunners have moved quickly to wrap up deals for Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis, with Torreira completing their first-team recruitment for the summer, though they are also working on a deal for Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi.

Emery's side begin their pre-season campaign at non-league Boreham Wood on July 14.
