Put pressure on Iran, Trump urges Putin at historic summit

Toward the end of the Helsinki press conference, Trump passed up on a chance to say unambiguously whether he believes Putin or USA intelligence agencies on the question of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Former CIA director John Brennan was pretty clear that the joint press conference President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin just held in Helsinki, Finland was an impeachable offense. But Monday's session was condemned in advance by members of Congress from both parties after the USA indictment last week of 12 Russian military intelligence officers accused of hacking Democrats in the 2016 election to help Trump's presidential campaign.

Russian President Valdimir Putin, fresh off his country hosting the World Cup, gave President Trump a soccer ball during their joint press conference in Helsinki on Monday, seemingly using it as a metaphor as Putin told Trump "now the ball is in your court".

"I had to repeat that the Russian state never interfered, and does not plan to interfere in internal American electoral process", Mr Putin said.

US President Donald Trump met one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin behind closed doors today.

And the president went on to blame both Russian Federation and the United States for rising tensions between the two countries regarding charges of election meddling.

Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, a key Trump ally, issued a statement backing up the intelligence community, but did not directly criticize the President. He again denied Kremlin interference in the election but offered to allow Mueller to observe interrogations of the agents by Russian authorities.

"Once again President Trump mentioned the issue of the so-called interference in the American elections", Putin said.

"He just said it's not Russia", Trump said.

Mother Jones D.C Bureau Chief David Corn said "anyone who works for Trump is assisting a man who sides with a foreign adversary against his own country and the U.S. government. And we get along in Syria too", Trump said. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be".

"A productive dialogue is not only good for the United States and good for Russian Federation, but it is good for the world", he said.

Mr Putin said allegations of meddling in the USA election are complete nonsense. "We will be talking a little bit about China, our mutual friend, President Xi", Trump was quoted as saying by ANI.

"I did hear this rumor that we allegedly collected compromising material when President Trump was in Moscow..." That led to an opinion among the Russian people that he was the preferable candidate.

When the world leaders sat down to shake hands and pose for photographs, Trump said he wanted to have a "extraordinary relationship" with Putin going forward.
