Mesut Ozil has respect of every player, says Arsenal boss

"I think that's a question for the manager, but as I said, he is one of the most experienced players and he is a world champion".

"We are like his home".

Ozil was also criticised for meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May, where the pair were photographed holding up an Arsenal shirt, and he has yet to comment on his retirement since he announced it through social media.

Ozil joined the Arsenal squad in Singapore for pre-season training, before they face Atletico Madrid in a friendly on Thursday.

From Ankara, Erdogan said it's "truly unacceptable that a young man who has given everything to the German national team and has contributed to its success is facing such a racist attitude because of his religion".

Germany´s football federation swiftly denied the allegation of racism, while Erdogan called Ozil to praise his decision - which follows a resurgence of the German far right.

Hoeness has sparked some anger across Europe after lambasting the Arsenal midfielder over his decision to retire from the German national team.

"We want to make him feel free". We know the football [world] around us is about opinion and critique, we have a mentality and quality to work away from this opinion.

"Training has been good and Emery has been a major influence to what we are doing on the training ground", the 18-year-old England youth global said.

Some have done little to dispel this idea in the aftermath of Ozil's retirement, dismissing the statements as "whining" from a player desperately short of form.

"Normality is the best thing for him and I am sure he´s going to do a big season with us this year.it´s very, very personal and here I want to help him".

"It´s something which is unfortunate for him but we will try to do everything so that he feels good, that he trains well so he feels good for the season, because he´s one of the key players".
