Sokratis reveals Unai Emery's main focus in pre-season

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has delivered a positive update over Alex Iwobi's contract negotiations with the club.

Arsenal conceded more goals in the Premier League than Burnley and Newcastle last season, and went on a run of 12 games without keeping a clean sheet in all competitions.

"My information is he's going to sign to continue with us", said Emery, who will face his previous club, Paris Saint-Germain, at the International Champions Cup on Saturday.

The Gunners completed a £26m deal for Sampdoria's Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira before Matteo Guendouzi moved from Nice.

Iwobi appears to be a big part of Emery's plans at the Emirates and is sure to feature regularly next season, given that he is one of the club's few, natural wide players in the first-team.

On what he has seen from his squad this pre-season, the head coach said that he is more content seeing his players working on their fitness rather than worrying about results. It's another match but we don't want to change our focus.

"Now, for me, it's the moment to work on tactical things, to work on getting every player up to speed".

The Gunners are now in Singapore, where they will take on French giants Paris Saint-Germain in a friendly on Saturday. This week, Mesut, Iwobi and Elneny are starting to work with us and our first impression is very good with them. "That's the only way I'm going to find the best performance, the best way to improve quickly but with common sense - not looking at certain players, looking at every player".
