Google Pixel 3 release date revealed in extraordinary leak

The latest revelation comes days after the Pixel 3 XL surfaced on a Geekbench listing that confirmed the presence of a Snapdragon 845 SoC and Android P out-of-the-box. "But these features are available in beta now for Pixel phones running Android 9", wrote Samat. Those handsets are; Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

In other words, while phones that shipped with Oreo or below will still have the current three-button navigation by default and the gesture nav as an option, upcoming Google phones (including the Pixel 3 line) will only ship with gesture navigation.

In true Essential fashion, the company is rolling out the Android Pie update to its only device; the PH1.

And devices that participated in the Beta program from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall!

For iPhone X clones, Android Pie supports display cutouts. For apps that aren't commonly used, the phone will put them to sleep so they don't draw as much power.

The new Android will also allow developers to access APIs that manage secure NFC payments and will sport a new ART runtime that will look to reduce an app's memory footprint and speed up performance. The dashboard is part of Google's new Digital Wellbeing initiative, which aims to help users curb smartphone addiction. Instead of a trio of buttons along the bottom of the screen, each one representing a different navigation method, Android 9 Pie uses gestures.

Well, this one sort of took us by surprise.

Among the other upgrades is a new "Adaptive Battery" system, which promises to help your phone save battery life by better restricting idle apps that run in the background.

Another AI feature, called App Actions, learns what common tasks you complete at a specific time, place, or when an accessory is connected to the device. If you find yourself constantly switching between apps on your Pixel, we've got good news for you: Smart Text Selection (which recognizes the meaning of the text you're selecting and suggests relevant actions) now works on the Overview of your recent apps, making it easier to perform the action you want.
