Aguero bags treble as rampant City hit Huddersfield for six

City had 32 shots during the match, which was a new record for the team in the Premier League under Guardiola, as in their previous 78 games their most shots was 28 in their 6-0 win over Watford in September 2017.

Sergio Aguero of Manchester City celebrates after scoring his team's fifth goal during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Huddersfield Town at Etihad Stadium on August 19, 2018 in Manchester, United Kingdom. Benjamin Mendy's surging run forward created havoc and Jesus drilled home a low effort to double City's lead.

Huddersfield needed to be able to take their momentum into the second half but within three minutes of the restart, City re-established their three-goal advantage as David Silva curled a 25-yard free kick into the top corner of the net.

Five minutes later, Aguero had his third - and his 31st league game in which he has scored multiple goals.

Of course, with so long left, it was nearly inevitable that the Blues would inflict further damage and it came on 75 minutes as Mendy sent in a fine low cross and Aguero deftly volleyed past Hamer from close range for yet another hat-trick in sky blue.

The gifted Gabriel Jesus scored a second goal before Aguero punished another Hamer horror error in the visiting goal to make it three.

City began its title defence by beating Arsenal 2-0 away last weekend.

And the rout continued when Hamer fumbled a routine Mendy cross and Aguero pounced, tapping in from six yards.

Sergio Aguero grabs a hat-trick! 5-1!

Imagine how many more he could have had playing with an abundance of creative geniuses such as Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane?

The former Spain global, who this week announced his retirement from his national team, curled a magnificent 25-yard left-foot free-kick into the top right-hand corner of the Huddersfield goal.

City swarmed around the Huddersfield area in the opening moments, Aguero having a shot blocked and the visitors' Steve Mounie miscuing a clearance onto the top of his own bar inside three minutes.

"Chelsea have a fantastic squad, Manchester City have a fantastic squad too, Tottenham made an incredible investment by keeping their players, that's the best investment you can make".

Jon Stankovic scored Huddersfield's goal, which made it 4-1 at the time.
