Independence Day releases ‘Gold’, ‘Satyameva Jayate’ storm the box office

Gold had collected Rs 8 crore on Thursday, and Satyameva Jayate had earned Rs 7.92 crore on the same day. The Milap Zaveri-directed film showed a drop in its collection on second day after "surprising" opening day collections. That's a strong showing for a vigilante drama considering it released with another patriotic Independence Day week offering - Akshay Kumar's Gold, which opened with Rs 25.25 crore on Wednesday and has crossed the Rs 50-crore mark with its Saturday earning.

John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate has reportedly minted an estimated Rs 46.65 crore at the box office, so far. The combined total collection of both the film is Rs 45 crore.

It released with John Abraham's "Satyameva Jayate" and the movie is one of the biggest releases of the month which is set to have a free run considering it has little to no competition from "Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi", "Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se" and "Stree" which will hit the theatres in the coming weeks.

Gold is a sports based thriller that depicts independent India's first Olympic gold in hockey at the 14th London Olympiad.

Here's the box office report of Satyameva Jayate.

Gold has therefore become Akshay Kumar's best first day performer. The film which released on Independence Day has managed to collect Rs 33.25 crore in the first two days of its release. Just like Sholay-Jai Santoshi Maa and Lagaan-Gadar, the clash between Gold and Satyameva Jayate has sent the cash registers ringing. AkshayKumar's Gold also features on the list.
