Paul Pogba targets immediate Manchester United response

Glenn Murray marked his 200th Brighton appearance with the opening goal in the 25th minute, before further goals from Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross - from the penalty spot - left United reeling.

Brighton were 3-1 ahead at half-time and frustrated United until Pogba converted a penalty in stoppage time, and the France worldwide suggested he had not been mentally prepared. Had more shots, more chances, more crosses and more action in the final third.

We are only two games into the season. Now there are heads of recruitment, sporting directors and a series of people that are operating at the best football clubs in the world, like Bayern Munich and, unfortunately Manchester City, whose operating structure and people are fantastic.

Mourinho's unhappiness with a lack of new signings has been clear for some weeks.

Ed Woodward has also been unusually quiet, but it looks like a move for either Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire or Jerome Boateng may happen before the window slams shut. Something does not seem right - with him and his team - although those Brighton fans' prediction was never going to come true on Monday morning.

Mourinho warned in the summer that his side faced "a hard season" if they did not strengthen before the transfer window closed. The Brazilian midfielder was at his marauding best at times and will be looking to continue his solid start for the Red Devils.

This was just the 10th time in Premier League history that United conceded three first-half goals, and the first time since their 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in October 2015.

The former United defender believes adopting a structure similar to those in force at Manchester City and Bayern Munich could steer the club back to success on the pitch. After this performance, he could face a battle to stay in his manager's plans.

Paul Pogba said that he and his Manchester United team-mates had the wrong attitude during their 3-2 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday.

United's captain for the day raised eyebrows after the game when he said that, "My attitude was not right". Only two players have netted more goals exclusively at home in the competition's history - Georginio Wijnaldum (18) and Clive Wilson (9).

Slipping from one that regularly won the Premier League to one that regularly does not like is not comparable to those woes, but the United of August 2018 are a concern for their many fans.

Last season, it took them nine goals before they shipped four goals and it was five the previous year.
