UCF ranked No. 21 in preseason AP top 25 poll

UCF ranked No. 21 in preseason AP top 25 poll

For the third consecutive year, Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide sit atop the Associated Press' Top-25 poll heading into the new season.

It's the fifth time Alabama has entered the season ranked No. 1 under Coach Nick Saban, though past year was the only one of those seasons in which the Tide won the national title.

Alabama was one of three teams to get at least one first-place vote (the Crimson Tide obviously got a lot more than just one). A team receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second place and so on through to the 25th team, which receives one point, per AP.

Clemson came in No. 2 in the poll, Georgia No.3, Wisconsin No. 4, and Ohio State at No. 5.

1 in the preseason AP poll, which was released Monday. UA also began the season No. 1 in the writers' rankings in 1966, 1978, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2017.

Texas, which hasn't been ranked in the final AP poll since 2012, is No. 23 for the second consecutive season.

The Sooners, who are coming off a third straight Big 12 title and a second College Football Playoff appearance in the last three years, accumulated 1,173 points in the poll.

This marks the 19th straight year that OU has appeared in the preseason AP Top 25, which is the second longest current string behind Ohio State (30). The AP poll is a historic poll of record.
