Final farewells to Sen. John McCain begin at Arizona Capitol

McCain had been an infuriating foil in a long-running feud over style and policy that did not end with the senator's illness and death. "Watch President Trump's State of the Union Address on YouTube". John McCain, on Wednesday and several of his children sobbed during the first of two services for the long-serving statesman and former prisoner of war before he is taken for the last time from the state he has represented since the 1980s.

By early afternoon, the error was fixed, and all queries for "McCain Senate Office Building" in Google maps were redirected to Russell.

Since McCain's death, Trump has come under fire for a confused and possibly disrespectful response to the passing of an American who served his country for sixty years. It also began two days of official mourning in McCain's adopted state before his body is taken to Washington for his burial.

"I doubt you could find a comparable situation where the president doesn't order the flag flown at half-mast until the funeral", said John Lawrence, history professor at the University of California's Washington Center to Reuters.

Obama, who is responsible for extinguishing McCain's second bid for the White House a decade ago, immediately answered that he would.

"It's one foot in front of the other", Graham said.

Meanwhile, Trump led a confused White House response to a self-inflicted controversy caused by the White House not keeping flags at half mast for the customary period of time.

Yet Trump has also found himself excluded from - or opting out of - other, more routine parts of the presidency. Many of those in McCain's own party appear less willing to forgive him for his maverick behavior: among Republicans who were supporters of President Trump during the 2016 primary season opinion of McCain is mixed: 45% are favorable, but 48% are not.

While the president's statement sought to defuse the controversy, the upcoming weeklong celebration of McCain's life is likely to bring new awkwardness. John McCain on the Senate floor, telling the South Carolina Republican he "did right by his friend".

"He taught me that honour and imperfection are always in competition", Senator Graham said on Tuesday, reading from a handwritten outline next to McCain's empty desk, now topped with roses. Another idea is to add McCain's portrait to a reception room right off the Senate floor, joining such giants as Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and Robert Taft.

He said McCain's ultimate lesson is forgiveness and love.

By the time the service ended, crowds had gathered to wait for the public viewing of McCain's closed casket, seeking shelter from Phoenix's summer heat under tents with coolers filled with ice and water bottles. "I have been thinking about this". Just a few weeks ago the president signed into law a defence bill named in honour of the senator without a single mention of his name.

A Google spokesperson disputed the allegation, saying Google's homepage did highlight the livestream of Trump's State of the Union on January 30, 2018. So heartbreaking. To her he is not the war hero or statesman, he is Dad.

"I have often observed that I am the luckiest person on earth". He later withdrew his support after the release of the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape in which Trump bragged about groping women. The aide told colleagues they should disregard McCain's opposition to Trump's Central Intelligence Agency nominee because "he's dying anyway".

"Do not despair of our present difficulties", he wrote.
