New York Jets Trade Teddy Bridgewater

As the deadline approaches, several big name players could also be traded - such as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who the New York Jets traded to the New Orleans Saints today.

Bridgewater returned this season after a horrific knee injury kept him off the field for almost two years.

It's significant for the Jets because it makes rookie Sam Darnold the No. 1 quarterback, and by sending a third-round pick, it shows the Saints are thinking life after Drew Brees.

It wasn't immediately clear who else or what picks are included in the trade. NY signed him to a one-year contract that only guaranteed a $500,000 signing bonus - but included various performance-based incentives.

And considering how Bridgewater departed NY, here's hoping he receives a warm welcome in New Orleans.

Darnold has flashed potential for the Jets this preseason, completing 29 of 45 passes (64.4% completion rate) for 244 yards, and two touchdowns against one interception in three games. "We look forward to working with him and watching him continue to develop as a player". His passer rating is 104.7.

New Orleans also has plenty of young weapons including Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara that represent a major upgrade from the last time Bridgewater was a starter prior to the 2016 season.

Meanwhile, the deal raises questions about Savage's future with the Saints, even though his preseason numbers have been solid.
