Nick Foles Starts Thursday Vs. Falcons

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are planning to start Foles - not Wentz - in their season opener against the Falcons on Thursday.

What words were put in your mouth?

But the news that Foles is the starter isn't really surprising.

Pederson did say Wentz had not yet been cleared to participate in contact drills.

"I'm going to lump you all together", Pederson told the group. The Eagles only practice three more times, including Sunday, before the game.

"We're trying to win a football game", Pederson said.

It's certainly the right call for the Eagles, seeing as it wouldn't make sense to rush their franchise quarterback back to the field after suffering a serious knee injury. The Eagles have chosen their Week 1 starter.

This obviously will not be Foles' first time filling in for Wentz. He noted that there wasn't as stark a difference between the two quarterbacks' playing styles as when the Philadelphia had Ron Jaworski and Randall Cunningham in the 1980s.

Now that training camp and preseason is officially in the books, it's only a matter of days before Week 1 is officially underway when the Atlanta Falcons return to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the defending Super Bowl champions in the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ryan may never have another season like he did in 2016 when he won MVP, but he should produce better numbers than past year, assuming his very bad luck with interceptions turns around.

Foles gets the nod because Carson Wentz has yet to be cleared for a full return to football activities.

Pederson: You saw the reports. That might help Wentz be ready by then. Last week, Pederson also was annoyed about constant questions about Wentz's health. We'll get a definitive answer Thursday, and, assuming it's Foles, the coach can only hope the Eagles will see the postseason, not preseason, version.
