Officer-involved shooting at California Racetrack

Video provided by Fox San Diego showed deputies struggling with a man in a white shirt on the ground.

The unidentified suspect was taken to a hospital.

At 7:22 p.m., the racetrack tweeted that the "situation has been contained" and said the concert "is moving forward as planned".

People at the venue saw a string of sheriff's and police cars responding to the fairgrounds around 6:40 p.m.

The exchange of gunfire occurred just before Ice Cube was set to take the stage as part of Del Mar's Summer Concert Series, his performance set to be the last show of the summer schedule.

The suspect was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and his condition is unknown at this time.

The Sheriff's Homicide Detail will give another media briefing when more information is available.

The man had been trying to buy a ticket to the concert featuring the rapper Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, the department said in a statement.

Many concert goers left following the shooting, but Ice Cube went on as scheduled.

It appears no one else was hurt, the department said. The man pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots into a crowded area. In a TVG broadcast of the race that was posted on Twitter, an announcer can be heard repeatedly saying, "There's gunfire at the track", as horses continue along the turf course.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club said in a statement: "As is our special events protocol, substantial law enforcement and private security was on site in anticipation of the event".
