Five-time champion Federer knocked out of US Open by Aussie Millman

Federer broke first on the way to a 5-3 lead in the set, but Millman won the last four games, breaking Federer twice.

In the fourth set, Federer broke Millman's serve, celebrated it with an audible 'come on, ' got the audience on their feet, but was broken back in the very next game.

Next up for Millman is a quarter-final match-up against Novak Djokovic, and Federer said the sixth seed will have a fight on his hands. To add to his resume, though, he might need to beat Federer, who has won five of his men's-record 20 major titles at Flushing Meadows.

"But, look, at some point also I was just happy that the match was over, I guess". Claiming he is a "big fan of John", the world number two praised the Aussie during an interview published by The Australian before their match, labelling him a friendly and hardworking guy.

John Millman can't believe at his win over Roger Federer at the US Open.

What if he couldn't help but look ahead to that blockbuster match with Novak Djokovic, maybe with a little excitement, maybe with a little reservation?

By the time Millman had signed the three match-balls customarily launched into the stands by match winners, there weren't many left in the stadium to catch the collectable. And then you get the highs like each win at this US Open. She lost to Stephens again this year in the French Open semifinals.

The biggest concern for sixth-seeded Djokovic might well have been the conditions as the heat returned to NY after a few days of relief.

The extreme heat policy is back in effect at the U.S. Open.

Seventh-seeded Cilic, who needed eight match points in a five-set marathon against Australian teenager Alex de Minaur spilled into Sunday morning survived some tense moments to get past 10th-ranked Belgian David Goffin 7-6 (8/6), 6-2, 6-4.

The policy is a rule on the women's tour but not the men's. The policy was in place Tuesday through Thursday.

"Some days it's just not the day where the body can cope with it".

He reached the quarterfinals for an 11th consecutive appearance in NY as he bids for a third U.S. Open championship and 14th Grand Slam trophy.

Both play unseeded opponents in the round of 16 Monday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Djokovic is 27-0 in the U.S. Open against players ranked outside the top 50.

Millman is a journeyman in every sense of the word, winning 17 Challenger and ITF tournaments so far in his career.
