Mike Tomlin Shares New Details On Star RB Le’Veon Bell

Heading into the season with Super Bowl aspirations, the Steelers need to get Bell's situation figured out.

With just five days to go until the Steelers kick off their regular season in Cleveland, Bell is running out of time to report if he wants to play in Week 1. Anyway, although the team said it was disappointed that Bell didn't report on Monday, no one on the roster seems to be too concerned.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement that he is "disappointed [Bell] has not signed his franchise tender and rejoined his teammates" as the star running back continues his holdout.

Although the team expected Bell to skip training camp after he didn't get the long-term contract he wanted in July, the Steelers were blindsided when Bell chose to skip the team's first practice of Week 1 on Monday.

So Tomlin declined to get into specifics about how long it might take for Bell to get ready to play after not practicing for eight months. It's fine. He showed up past year at the same time.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team is "singularly focused on the guys being here".

Bell's 47 total yards in last year's opener against Cleveland was a career-low, while Conner logged 11 yards on four carries. When asked why, Tomlin simply replied "James".

"James", the Steelers coach said Tuesday.

The 26-year-old had showcased that in the 2017 campaign where he finished third with 1,291 rushing yards and nine touchdowns along with a career-high 85 receptions for 655 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

But the team has been effusive in its praise of Conner, who rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries with 7 catches for 61 yards in the preseason.

Conner saw little action a year ago as a rookie, with 32 carries for 144 yards in 14 games before a torn MCL ended his season.
