Apple iPhone Xs, Xs Max: 5 coolest features

Apple iPhone Xs, Xs Max: 5 coolest features

"The Xs and Xs Max will essentially be new versions of the OLED iPhone X-the screen on the Max is an enormous 6.5" size with an edge-to-edge display, and the regular XS is 5.8" just like the regular X was. It retains the key advances of the first iPhone X - facial recognition and an edge-to-edge display - but is cheaper while being noticeably larger at 6.1 inches.

Joining the XS and XS Max will be the iPhone XR, a lower-cost model that comes in a variety of fun colors including blue, coral, yellow and red.

As indicated, there might be the large iPhone XS Max and apart from the 6.5-inch display, Apple could try out a 3-camera setup and support for the Apple Pencil on this model. Like those, the phone doesn't have a home button; rather, you simply tap to wake it and swipe up to return to the home screen. With the introduction of iPhones ditching the Apple-made feature of 3D Touch, it could spell the death of one of Apple's most promising features, even if no one really uses it.

In preparation for the arrival of new products, Apple's regular practice involves taking down its online store hours before any announcements.

The iPhone XS has the biggest battery ever put in an iPhone. Both devices come with Dual SIM and Gigabit LTE support, with more bands supported for roaming. The cheaper iPhone XR was also unveiled, as was the Apple Watch Series 4.

Today, Apple announced its latest premium handsets, the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max.

The iPhone Xs and Xs Max have two rear-facing cameras, one is a 12MP "telephoto" lens and the other is a 12MP wide-angle lens.

The other products, such as Macs and Mac Books and AirPods as well as the new iOS 12 will all be heard about in the Wednesday event at the Steve Jobs Theater, Cuppertino.

While the iPhones will be the Wednesday's main attraction, Apple's growing smartwatch business will see stage time, too. The watch also packs an improved accelerometer and gyroscope with twice the dynamic range, which allows the new wearable to do things such as detect when you've fallen down - and start an emergency call if you can't get up. Face ID can be used to unlock the device and access Apple Pay. Both models will be available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB capacity models in space gray, silver and a new gold finish starting at $1379 (CAD) and $1,519 (CAD) respectively.

Customers will be able to pre-order iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max beginning Friday, September 14, with availability beginning Friday, September 21.

The last time Apple launched a lower-cost version of the iPhone was the iPhone 5c in 2013, when it took the innards of the previous generation's iPhone 5 and wrapped it in a plastic body.
