The long-awaited start of the online service for Nintendo's hybrid console is set in stone.

3, The Legend of Zelda and Dr. Mario, with newly-added online multiplayer, with Nintendo promising that 20 NES games will be available at launch. There will also be cloud-based saves. By the end of the month you'll no longer be able to play Nintendo games online for free, as Nintendo reschedules its cancelled Direct.

Why it matters: Nintendo is late to the online party and while it might not be as feature-packed as the competition, at least that is reflected in its price point.

After teasing its arrival for what feels like a lifetime, Nintendo has finally confirmed its Switch Online subscription plan will launch in just a few days on September 18, 2018.

As announced before, the Switch Online service will cost $29.95 for 12 months, $11.95 for three months and $5.95 for a month-on-month subscription. Previously, playing online was free, but once Switch Online debuts, everyone will need to pay to play online.
