This is Apple's new iPhone XR

"I look at the new Apple Watch in much the same way that I look at the iPhone, which is such a good device that it has pushed its way into the medical setting".

An improved accelerometer and gyroscope in the watch mean that it can detect when the user has taken a fall, and the watch will ask if they need help.

The Series 4 is now equipped with an all-new S4 dual-core 64-bit CPU which Apple claims will make the watch run twice as fast as its predecessor.

More: The big news from Apple wasn't just new iPhones.

Smartwatch chipset maker Qualcomm has announced it has developed a new Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip for Google's Wear OS smartwatch platform, which is expected to result in longer battery life and slimmer designs.

With the app, users touch the Digital Crown and after 30 seconds, receive a heart rhythm classification. Apple doesn't break out sales numbers, but said its device is the best-selling watch in the world.

Customers can preorder the Apple Watch Series 4 directly from or from local carriers, including, and in the U.S., and also started accepting preorders today.

EKGs are important tests of heart health that typically require a doctor visit. The feature gained an onstage endorsement from Ivor Benjamin, a cardiologist who is president of the American Heart Association.

Nonetheless, Valentine and other heart experts said the device had the potential to gather useful information for patients and their doctors.

Gartner analyst Tuong Nguyen said the feature could turn smartwatches "from something people buy for prestige into something they buy for more practical reasons".

Now Apple is incorporating ECGs into the Apple watch's native software and hardware, a move that must temper AliveCor's investors, but such usurpation is a known risk in an industry where platforms routinely push around, and push out, their developers.

The iPhone Xs and Xs Max both Apple's biggest displays in a smartphone, measuring 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch respectively.

True to speculations and rumors, Apple released three new devices to its line up (while interestingly end production for quite a number of its previous models). A new app will say whether each reading is normal or shows signs of atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rate that increases the risk of heart complications, such as stroke and heart failure.

"This can be an addition to our growing armamentarium to diagnose AFib, which can be intermittent and asymptomatic", said Dr. Lin Yee Chen, co-director of the Atrial Fibrillation Center at University of Minnesota Health Heart Care. But, all kidding aside, falls can be deadly serious, and the fall detection feature in the Series 4 might, in fact, be a life saver. You can tap to acknowledge the fall but say you're OK. It will also watch for heart rhythm and can detect if the wearer falls. If you do not respond to the notification, call the emergency services or send a message a message to them.

Irish customers can order Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS) now, with availability beginning Friday, September 21.

"The iPhone XR on the other hand sports what Apple now calls a 6.1" edge to edge Liquid Retina display which is LCD.
