Cosby's publicists have instead argued the judge denied Cosby a fair trial.

After the sentencing, Mr Andrew Wyatt, Cosby's spokesman, read a lengthy statement in which he decried what he called "the most racist and sexist trial in the history of the United States". Cosby reportedly added that he was "under siege" behind bars. Cosby's defense team has raised the racial issue before, in 2016, before quickly scrapping it. "He's hidden behind a character he created, Dr. Cliff Huxtable", Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said at a news conference, referring to Cosby's best-known role.

Over the years, Philadelphia magazine has chronicled Crosby's decline, at times advancing the story and knowledge of the accusations against the comedian.

Cosby, who was also deemed by the court to be a "sexually violent predator" and fined $25,000 (as well as various court costs), plans to appeal. This is actually a standard practice in prison, since any of those items could be used to harm one's self or others.

"If the judge found one to be the appropriate number the first time around, how do you explain five the second time around?" he said in an interview after Cosby's conviction in April. Cosby claimed the encounter was consensual, and his lawyers branded her a "con artist" who framed the comedian to get a big payday - a $3.4 million settlement she received over a decade ago.

A prison spokesperson at the time said "all property discrepancies are being reviewed and are in the process of being resolved".

Still, legal experts say, Cosby faces long odds of winning on appeal.
