'You're not thinking, you never do,' Donald Trump tells female reporter

President Donald Trump on Monday mocked a reporter and said she "never" thinks when she was called on during a press conference.

This insult to Cecilia Vega is another in a string of incidents, and its disappearance in the first official transcripts raise their own questions about what exactly is going on in the Donald Trump White House. "She's, like, in a state of shock", he added.

"I'm not. Thank you, Mr. President", Vega replied. Trump sidestepped the question, admonishing Vega in the process for not sticking to the topic of the press conference, which was trade.

Trump: That's okay. I know you're not thinking, you never do.

"Okay question? Yeah, go ahead, sure", Trump said, calling on a Vega in the audience.

He refused to let Vega ask a question about the other big news of the day: the FBI investigation into his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

President Trump can truly throw any event off the rails - even a seemingly benign event celebrating a new trade deal with Mexico and Canada.

Trump eventually weighed in on his Supreme Court pick's alleged drunkenness in college and high school, with the president exclaiming that he himself would have been a "mess" had he ever developed a drinking habit.

Ms Vega later posted a message on Twitter, defending her position of asking non-trade questions at the press conference. So, where the U.S. president accused the reporter of "not thinking", it now says "not thanking". But a close listen seems to reveal that Trump was just insulting Vega's manners, and not her intellect. "I don't mind answering the question, but, you know, I'd like to do the trade questions".

Trump interrupted Jiang as well and when she pointed that fact out, he told her to sit down. Government broadcast producers had left the reporter's microphone muted while a Russian-to-English translator delivered Putin's answer to his previous question.

"I'm not a drinker, I can honestly say I've never had a beer in my life", Trump said. "You've had enough", he yelled before turning to another reporter. "It's unfair to him at this point". "I'd be the world's worst".
