Dodgers hit 3 home runs, beat Braves 6-0 in NLDS opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be battling behind Clayton Kershaw in Game 2 of their NLDS series against the Atlanta Braves, as they look to take a commanding 2-0 lead through their two games in Los Angeles.

The Braves closed the regular season with three losses in their last five games, managing just one run in those defeats. Justin Turner began the first two months of the season trying to get healthy after breaking his wrist. During the press conference Dave Roberts, most likely annoyed with all the questions about their recent performance, said, "When it's all said and done, the Dodgers will be at the top of the division.", he was right.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman tumbles into the front row in pursuit of a fourth inning foul ball. He's hitting.297 with 19 home runs against right-handed pitchers compared to just.209 and 4 against southpaws. The blast came after a regular season when Pederson had 25 home runs, including eight leadoff homers.

Donovan Farrell got an unexpected birthday present Friday night - a Manny Machado home run ball and a meeting with the man who hit it. Gausman is scheduled to start for the Braves in Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It's easy to complain and say it will be tough to manufacture runs when they need to, but they haven't needed to yet and home runs equal runs which the Braves simply aren't getting.

On Friday he finally did, smacking a first-inning Aníbal Sánchez meatball on 3-0 over the leftfield fence.

"We've still got chances, " Culberson said. "I mean, it's just our whole lineup is having a hard time". The Dodgers caught wind of the fact that it was Donovan's birthday and surprised him at the end of the game - with a meet-and-greet with Machado.

The 21-year-old Albies was 1 for 4 and 24-year-old Johan Camargo was hitless in four tries.

"Joc's home run really didn't bother me", said Foltynewicz, who was charged with the loss, allowing four runs and three hits, striking out five, walking three and hitting a batter in two innings. "And I think they'll come back with a little more sense of what we're in for tomorrow". "And it was good for him to experience this", Snitker said.

"When you look at it and giving each guy one extra day of rest as opposed to Hyun-Jin and Clayton on regular rest and then you look at Game 3, Walker (Buehler) on an extra day, made more sense to us", Roberts said.

"It would be one or two of us", Kershaw said, smiling.

It was not easy though, the Dodgers were as far as nine games out of first place after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 9th.

Whereas Game 1 was televised on MLB Network last night, Game 2 is being televised on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) cable TV.

"I see the frustration those guys have against this guy", Braves starter Anibal Sanchez said of his teammates facing Kershaw.

Kershaw ran out to the mound as though he was going to pitch the ninth, bringing cheers from the sellout crowd of 54,452.

At face value, the Dodgers' move to Ryu in Game 1 makes sense because it keeps their rotation in order. Kershaw was stellar. The future Hall of Famer dominated in the playoffs with one of the more aesthetic outings of his career.
