Dozens hurt in floor collapse at S. Carolina apartment party

People fell through the collapsed floor into the building's basement, Slann said.

Police said 30 people were injured when the floor of the apartment clubhouse collapsed during a party on homecoming weekend in Clemson, South Carolina.

"Clemson officials were notified early Sunday morning of an incident at the Woodlands Apartments in the City of Clemson".

About 30 people were taken to local hospitals after the center of the floor caved in at the clubhouse near the SC university.

Police said they received a 911 call at 12:30 a.m. about the cave-in and ambulances were quickly dispatched to the area. Details on the extent of the injuries were not immediately available. Videos shot at the scene showed a large party with people jumping around and dancing when the floor suddenly gave out from under them. A video clip taken moments later shows a screaming pile of people on the floor of the basement below, with some panicked partygoers attempting to climb out of a risky pit using remnants of the broken floor. "I can tell you there was a party". Reports say many were taken to hospitals with injuries but none was considered life-threatening.

"You've got people that are trying to have a good time, trying to enjoy themselves...then the next thing they know the floor collapses", said Chief Jimmy Dixon with the Clemson Police Department. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured and we apologize for any inconvenience". A police investigation is in progress.
