Le'Veon Bell not expected to report to Pittsburgh Steelers this week

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell did not report to the team today at the start of its bye week. During his absence, James Conner has emerged as a productive replacement at running back, rushing for 342 yards and five touchdowns in Pittsburgh's first five games. Reports originally indicated that Bell would join the team at some point during its week off, meaning he has the whole week to show up.

This should quickly become an intriguing situation in the backfield as Bell will be aiming to recapture his starting job or it could possibly further complicate the entire matter in a couple of weeks.

"I miss football", Bell said earlier this month.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news.

If Bell were to report next week, he would return in time for Pittsburgh's (3-2-1, third in AFC North) home contest against Browns on Sunday, Oct. 28. However, with the Steelers observing their bye week, players will be off Thursday through Sunday, and Bell will not rejoin them prior to the break. That would put him out for almost half the season.

Eventually, Bell has to return, right? According to ESPN's Field Yates, he is losing out on over $800,000.

If Le'Veon Bell's goal is to make life as hard as possible for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he's certainly succeeding. "I still do want to go out there and win a Super Bowl with the Steelers".

Bell could report during that time, and be paid for this week as well, but the Steelers remain in wait-and-see mode.
