Lopetegui has been defiant over questions about his future, saying: "What I've learned about this club is to fight, that is the DNA of this club".

"We certainly have respect for each rival, and of Real Madrid for that quality of course", he told the club's official website.

"That's what we're going to do, fight, both the players and the coaching staff".

Lopetegui has vowed to fight on and said: "Results haven't been great but we are going to turn this around".

"It is us that haven't been scoring goals or playing well".

"Very good, very good", he said, as quoted by Marca. "Obviously this is a very bad streak for Madrid and that can't happen, but we are still very much alive in the league, there's not a huge difference in points to the teams at the top".

The attacker moved to United in 2003 and was a part of the team that was dumped out of the Champions League by Mourinho's Porto in the last 16 - the coach doing little to endear himself to the Old Trafford faithful with his victorious charge down the touchline during a 1-1 draw in England after Costinha's crucial equaliser.

Los Blancos are now lying seventh in La Liga after winning just four matches in nine games, losing three and drawing two. Viktoria Plzen has only one point after two matches. Real Madrid sadly faced their third league defeat in four games to the Valencia club.

Real resume their Champions League campaign - where they lost to CSKA Moscow last time out - against the Czech outfit, and Lopetegui is insistent he will still be in a job.

"I look forward to the stadium and the team, it is definitely an exceptional team, three times in a row they won the Champions League and, of course, no one knows if we will ever have a chance to play against such a team again". Since then they've scored 125 goals at the Bernabeu, at an average of nearly three per game.

The Champions League match between Real Madrid and Viktoria Plzen will be broadcast live on B/R Live.

Real have struggled for goals of late amidst a run of five games without a win across all competitions.
