NBC Reportedly Cancels Megyn Kelly's Show After She Defended Blackface

She lost her job after making some seriously boneheaded comments on her show two days ago.

Kelly's remarks came on October 23, 2018, during a segment on Megyn Kelly Today while discussing Halloween costumes with a panel when she asked, "What is racist? When I was a kid it was OK as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character".

"If Megyn Kelly had been getting great ratings I imagine NBC would stand by her".

NBC reportedly fired Megyn just moments ago. Kelly's new attorney is set to meet with NBC executives as early as Friday to "determine next steps", insiders say. So will she get paid the remaining tens of millions that she is owed?

"Megyn Kelly Today" has drawn smaller audience than what "Today" was drawing in the timeslot. "It's complicated. Now is as good of time as any to get rid of her".

The talks about dropping Kelly's 9 a.m. show pre-dated this week's controversy about her offensive comments about blackface Halloween costumes.

Kelly did not host her show as scheduled on Thursday morning. "I know some people don't like Fox News, and some people don't like me and that's OK". Some of her co-stars, however, are not ready to forgive. At NBC she would need to be friendlier, peppier, warmer... "It was clear that it was not working and there is a lot of dysfunction". The show was canceled after just 8 episodes.

"This past year has been so painful for many people of color".

'Megyn Kelly is done.

The stakes were very high for Megyn.

NBC attempted to command lofty price hikes in the 9 a.m. hour, when Kelly's show airs, during last year's upfront ad haggle - when networks look to secure a bulk of their ad commitment for the following season - but received pushback from advertisers.

NBC's swift moves will likely mitigate any sort of meaningful advertiser backlash that has become commonplace in the news ecosystem.

Enter Megyn Kelly Today.

That's right. At the time the network was embracing rabid neoconservatism and open borders, two things Trump was campaigning against. They were hoping to bring some of her popularity. It's unclear if NBC will pay it out.

A Hollywood agency, CAA, also parted ways with her this week over the comments, according to Page Six and the Hollywood Reporter. Her representative confirmed she was switching to UTA, but then a spokesman for the company said they had decided not to represent her. "She is not ever coming back", an NBC exec told DailyMail.

"It's amusing what NBC were trying to do here", said Cassino.
