NZ duo score 43 off one over, create new List A record

New Zealand pair Joe Carter and Brett Hampton shattered the records by smashing a mind-boggling 43 runs in an over.

Willem Ludick earned an unwanted place in the record books on Wednesday when Northern Districts took 43 runs off one of his overs in a domestic one-day cricket match in New Zealand. At the other end of the record then was former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura, who smashed four sixes and three fours in a seven-ball over courtesy a no-ball. While Hampton fell short of a century by 5 runs falling for a 66-ball, Hampton amassed 102* in just 77 balls.

Well, a world record was created for the most runs in an over in a recent List A game between Northern Districts and Northern Districts.

Another six followed from a legitimate ball before he took a single to rotate the strike. We got a few no balls to help us get going.

Two Kiwi batsmen have combined to set a new cricket world record for the most runs scored in an over. Ludick's figures changed drastically after this over as it suddenly changed from 9-0-42-1 to 10-0-85-1.

"At the end of it we came together and discussed, 'How many did we actually get?'" Chigumbara while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club hammered 39 runs off an over bowled by Abahani Limited bowler Alauddin Babu in Dhaka Premier League held in 2013.

In a first-class match between Wellington and Canterbury in 1990, occasional bowler Bert Vance conceded 77 in an over in which only one of his first 17 deliveries was legitimate, part of a freakish attempt to contrive a result on the final day.
