Fossil gets active with Sport smartwatch

With Wear OS receiving a redesign back in September, a few manufacturers have been looking to leverage the OS in new devices.

Pankaj Kedia, senior director for product marketing at Qualcomm, said the new watch is built on a blending of "technology, fashion and fitness".

The company says the 350 mAh unit, with the help of Wear 3100, will be able to eke out a day of life based on the "full smartwatch experience", which we assume includes some HR tracking and Global Positioning System.

This is a Wear OS watch described as "the lightest smartwatch to date ". But the Sport runs on the new 3100 SoC, which should provide noticeable improvements in battery life and performance.

There's also a good reason why the Fossil Sport is 55 bucks pricier than the Fitbit Versa. There's NFC for Google Pay, GPS, 5 ATM water resistance, a heart-rate monitor and an altimeter. It is available as of now on Fossil.com, and it will become available in select Fossil brand stores around the world starting November 12. There are also two sizes 41mm and 43mm with 18mm or 22mm bands, respectively, and the watch cases are made of aluminum and nylon which keeps the weight down. At least on paper, this represents a feature-packed smartwatch with a bonus of extended battery life - all for a price that sensibly undercuts competitors like Apple and Samsung.
