Man who shot woman at Walmart turned gun on self

Police say a man suspected of fatally shooting a woman in a north Florida Walmart store has been hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound that is considered life-threatening.

Police said the shooting began as a domestic argument between a man and a woman in the store's garden center on East Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala. At 4:54 p.m., Ocala police said they had apprehended a 55-year-old suspect.

Witnesses told police Cronin screamed for help before she was shot multiple times.

They say he then returned to at their home on NE 35th Street, just a few miles away before shooting himself.

"When we arrived, we heard a gunshot, he was inside the residence with a self inflicted gunshot wound", Ocala Police Public Information Officer Meghan Shay said.

Scotty Ballard told the Ocala Star-Banner that Cronin was his roommate and that Johnson and Cronin had dated for about nine months but weren't now together.

Cronin was taken to a hospital, where she died.

He said the victim and the gunman dated for about nine months but were now apart.

Ocala police have not yet released the shooter's name or image. The woman died at a hospital. When Wade went outside, she saw the gunman riding away on a bicycle.

No other people were injured. A clerk intervened and called 911, and that's when the shots were fired.
