The new Captain Marvel trailer finally reveals her backstory

That trailer is incredible and, if you believe the rumours, there may be more to come from Marvel later this week. The Kree's mortal enemies are the Skrulls, a shape-shifting race that Captain Marvel and her allies are banded together in stopping altogether.

Larson is joined by Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. members Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, both of whom got the digital de-aging treatment for the 90s-set storyline. After an accident, she was found by the Kree, an alien race, who fused her DNA with their own, making her the powerful titular superhero. Returning to Earth could put the planet in jeopardy as the Kree are not exactly the friendliest humanoid species in the cosmos.

"I'm not going to fight your war", she declares. Carol was clearly infused with blue Kree blood at some point, is this what gave her the powers she has, or was this more in line with using powers she already had and make her think she is a Kree warrior? There are a couple of downsides, but mostly it feels like Marvel are holding back on this one, and that means we're left with a lot of questions.

Luckily, according to MCU boss Kevin Feige, she's 'the strongest character we've had yet', so if anyone's going to sort it, she will. We briefly see Danvers appearing to be infused with a blue liquid which is nearly certainly Kree blood (shades of the technique that saved the life of Phil Coulson in season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), followed by a nice clear shot of Danvers in her iconic helmet. Much to the amazement of Fury. Gee, I wonder what that war could be?

At least according to Marvel Cinematic Universe director Joe Russo, who told the Associated Press that Evans is "not done yet". Yes, she may be known as Chewie in the comics, but one thing that comes as a surprise is that Fury is a cat person. She certainly says she will end the war between the Kree and the Skrull at the end of the trailer. She's left her earthly life behind to join an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law's enigmatic commander.

Just like in the first trailer, Carol has faint memories of her life on earth.
