Pochettino says he would be sacked if he just won Carabao Cups

Denmark global Eriksen, 26, is a free agent at the end of next season and talks over a contract extension have reportedly stalled.

"Football is dynamic; it's about interests the manager sometimes can't manage".

Prior to this season, Tranmere Rovers have spent the last three years having to qualify for the first round proper during their time as a non-league club while tonight's opponents Tottenham Hotspur have reached the semi-finals of the competition in both of the last two campaigns.

Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to streamline his squad in the January window. He has four to his name as a player and now as a manager he and has stressed the importance of a good cup run.

"Whether you change the team, and we were fortunate at Chelsea that we had a strong squad and could handle the change in certain games, but in terms of intention and mindset we went into every game to win and that must be the same for us here".

"It would be fantastic if he committed to the club for a long time".

"He is happy here, he is showing his commitment", Pochettino said.

"It depends on many things in this business - different parties that have interests".

Although Spurs are pushing to compete on all fronts, he has yet to win a trophy since heading to England and he may feel a move to Spain or elsewhere in Europe offers him a better chance of honours, following the examples of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric. Different parties have interests. "At the moment I don't have any news".

Spurs' only third round exit since the 2005/2006 campaign came five years ago when they lost 2-0 to rivals Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium.

"I grew up with it, my Dad won it at West Ham in 1975 and 1980 so I grew up with a great understanding of how important it is", he said.
