Venom Sequel Officially In The Works, Tom Hardy Will Return

The writer of the the first movie, Kelly Marcel, will also be coming up with script number 2, which is either a red flag or an opportunity for a second chance, depending how you look at it.

Per Variety's sources, Marcel's Venom sequel deal "was a significant one", meaning Sony paid her a pretty penny to board the follow-up flick. In all, Venom brought in a staggering $855 million, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2018.

Tom Hardy is set to return as the titular antihero, journalist Eddie Brock (Venom), who gains superpowers after being bound to an alien symbiote whose species plans to invade Earth.

Venom marked the first instalment in a shared cinematic universe dubbed "Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters", and Sony is next moving ahead with a Morbius, the Living Vampire movie starring Jared Leto, which is scheduled for release on July 10th 2020.

More news on the Venom sequel as it arrives.

Michelle Williams is expected to rejoin Hardy, as is Woody Harrelson, who will portray Carnage in the sequel.

Director Ruben Fleischer is not a lock yet and it may be that his schedule for Zombieland 2 - which will see him unavailable until October at the earliest - makes it impossible and he ends up being replaced by someone else.

Prior to "Venom", Marcel was best known for adapting another box office hit, "Fifty Shades of Grey".

She is repped by WME, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and attorney Jason Sloane.
