Major Networks Will Cover Schumer And Pelosi’s Rebuttal To Trump’s National Address

She says: "The fact is: President Trump must stop holding the American people hostage, must stop manufacturing a crisis, and must reopen the government".

Meanwhile, the double act by Pelosi and Schumer from the Capitol crushed Trump by 26 percent on CNN and 15 percent on MSNBC, Deadline reported.

And he's suggesting the partial government shutdown could be "a blessing in disguise" because, he suggests, it could lead to a broader immigration deal. Those demands have put negotiations between Republicans and Democrats at a standstill, as Democrats say they will not capitulate to what they call a "waste" of taxpayer dollars for "an expensive and ineffective wall".

Feldman added he was surprised at how "toned-down" Trump's prime-time address was. So our suggestion is a simple one: Mr. President: re-open the government and we can work to resolve our differences over border security.

"We all agree that we need to secure our borders, while honoring our values: we can build the infrastructure and roads at our ports of entry; we can install new technology to scan cars and trucks for drugs coming into our nation; we can hire the personnel we need to facilitate trade and immigration at the border; and we can fund more innovation to detect unauthorized crossings", Pelosi said. Then-House Speaker John Boehner received time to respond to former President Barack Obama's speech on the debt ceiling on July 25, 2011.

Kennedy said that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) want to "win at all costs".

In response, Pelosi and Schumer directed their focus mainly toward bringing an end to the "senseless" ongoing government shutdown, and offered their own fact-checking of Trump's border security-related claims.

"Now that the television networks have made a decision to air the President's address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime", Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement. Three weeks into the shutdown, the strain was starting to show with hundreds of thousands of federal workers on track to miss paychecks this week. "I don't think he persuaded a soul with his talk last night".

She noted that the House passed legislation to reopen government on the first day of the new Congress.

The president is planning to visit the southern border later this week, according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders. "Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!"

On Thursday, the president plans to make a trip to the U.S. - Mexico border in McAllen, Texas, to demonstrate the need for border security.

"It's not going to change a damn thing, but I'm still doing it", Trump said to news anchors on Tuesday, according to the Times.
